Tips to Prepare for Your Boudoir Photoshoot: Ways to Feel Confident, and Ready for Your Session

Lynette Smith

Now that a boudoir session has been booked, the next question usually is—what needs to be done to get ready? Feeling a mix of nerves and excitement is completely normal. This list was created to help clients feel more confident and prepared for their time in the studio.

Pamper Yourself
Taking time to relax the day before can make a big difference. A warm bath, a favorite candle, a face mask, or a mani-pedi can help create a sense of calm and readiness before stepping in front of the camera.

Start with Your Closet
While wardrobe choices will be reviewed together, many favorite pieces may already be hanging in the closet. A soft tee, a cozy sweater, lingerie that feels amazing—whatever makes someone feel like themselves should be considered. Boudoir doesn’t have to be just lace and lingerie, although that’s always an option. A blend of looks is encouraged. Even just the sheets can create something stunning. If lingerie is part of the plan, it’s best to bring pieces that fit well and feel great. Trusted favorites are just as valuable as new purchases. Multiple options can be brought, and the best looks will be selected together.

Accessorize Intentionally
Accessories like simple jewelry, a leather jacket, or favorite heels can add variety and personality to the session. A few key pieces are enough to elevate the final images.

Move Your Body
Gentle movement can help ease nerves. Whether it’s stretching, a short walk, or dancing in the kitchen, getting the body moving before a session helps build confidence. Clients often say that one of the best parts of their session is all the laughter, and movement helps that energy flow more naturally.

Stay Hydrated + Snack Smart
Drinking water the day before and the day of the session is recommended. A light snack beforehand keeps energy levels up. The studio is stocked with snacks and drinks, and favorite items can be requested ahead of time.

Pinterest for Inspiration (But Don’t Overdo It)
Looking through Pinterest can be a helpful way to connect with visual ideas and themes. A mood board can offer inspiration, but recreating exact shots isn’t the goal. The session will be uniquely designed, with guidance and creativity throughout.

Trust the Process
Guidance will be provided every step of the way. No modeling experience is required. Posing, expressions, and everything in between will be handled with care, making it a seamless experience from start to finish.

Plan Skin Treatments Thoughtfully
Any waxing, shaving, or facials should be done 3–5 days before the session to give skin time to settle. Spray tans, shimmer lotions, and heavy oils should be avoided for at least two weeks before the shoot, as these products can transfer to furniture or affect how skin photographs.

Remove Tags & Stickers
Size tags, stickers, and packaging creases should be removed ahead of time. Small details like these can show up in final photos and take away from a polished look.

Arrive on Time—You Deserve the Full Experience
Sessions are scheduled to allow for private, uninterrupted time. Arriving right on time is appreciated, as setup or another client may still be in progress. If arriving early, La Vie En Coffee & Bakery just down the street is a perfect place to relax and enjoy something delicious before the session begins.
