Am I Too Old for Boudoir? (Spoiler: Nope.)

I’m a woman over 40. I’m turning 60 next year.

So I’m not guessing about what this season of life feels like.

I get it.

I know what it’s like to watch the world celebrate younger women while acting as if the rest of us should quietly disappear into the background.

But here’s what I know.

We are not fading.

We’re finally showing up.

So, let’s get this out of the way right now.

No, you’re not too old for boudoir.

Not at 42. Not at 58. Not at 73. Not at 90.

My oldest boudoir client so far was over 90 years old! Yup, over 90 years young!

Boudoir is not something you age out of.

In fact, this may be the age when it means the most.

We Have Spent Long Enough Being Told Who We Aren’t

From the time we’re young, we’re told how to look, how to act, and how much space we’re allowed to take up.

Your skirt is too short. Your neckline is too low. You’re too loud. You’re too quiet. You speak up too much. You don’t speak up enough. You’re too emotional. You’re too opinionated.

You’re too much.

Then, in the next breath, we’re told we’re not enough.

The rules were impossible because they were never ours.

Now we’re making our own.

We’re owning our space. We’re making big life changes. We’re doing things differently. We’re deciding what we want and forging our own paths, whatever that looks like for each of us.

We’re done making ourselves smaller so other people can feel comfortable.

My goal with boudoir isn’t to hand you another standard to meet.

It’s to show you that you’re already more than enough.

What Are You Really Asking?

When a woman asks me, “Am I too old for boudoir?” I know there is usually more behind that question.

“Is it finally my turn?”

“Can I celebrate the woman I am now?”

“Can I have photographs that show my confidence, strength, and fire?”

“Can I do something bold simply because I want to?”

“Is boudoir really for a woman my age?”

Yes.

Absolutely yes.

Your age doesn’t take away from the photograph. It brings more to it.

You bring the woman who has loved, worked, raised families, built careers, started over, changed her mind, changed her life, and learned exactly who she is.

You bring more confidence, more personality, more strength, and a lot less interest in anyone else’s rules.

Boudoir After 40 Hits Differently

At this age, boudoir is bigger than putting on something beautiful and standing in front of a camera.

It’s seeing yourself take up space without apologizing for it.

It’s seeing the confidence in your eyes, the strength in your body, and the fire that only became stronger with time.

It’s having a photograph that says, “This is me. Right here. Right now.”

I’ve watched women sit down for their image reveal, see the first photograph, and stare at it for a moment.

Then they look at me and say:

“Damn, that is me.”

That is the power of boudoir for women over 40.

Sometimes you know you’re strong. You know you’re capable. You know how far you’ve come.

But you have never seen all of it looking back at you from a photograph.

Boudoir gives you the proof.

We Get Better With Age

I don’t believe our best years are behind us.

I believe we’re just getting good.

We know more. We expect more. We choose differently.

We’re no longer waiting for someone else to tell us when we’re allowed to feel beautiful, be bold, make a change, or do something completely for ourselves.

This is what getting better with age looks like.

Not disappearing.

Arriving.

Nope.

You’re exactly the age where it means something.

Women over 40 are not the background.

We’re the whole damn story.
